Artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping discussions about the future of healthcare. From research and diagnosis to digital health technologies and personalised approaches to care, AI is creating new opportunities while also raising important questions about accessibility, trust, and user engagement.

These themes were at the centre of Hacking Health and Life Sciences – Le frontiere dell'Intelligenza Artificiale, an event organised by Lombardia Life Sciences in January 2026. Bringing together researchers, healthcare professionals, innovators, companies, and institutional stakeholders, the event explored the opportunities and challenges associated with the growing role of artificial intelligence in health and life sciences.

During the event, Andrea Loreggia, Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Brescia, introduced VIPPSTAR as a flagship project within the session dedicated to the practical applications of AI in research, development, and healthcare. As healthcare increasingly incorporates AI-driven and data-based approaches, the project explores the role that future digital technologies for health may play in supporting young people with visual impairment, while also examining how they can engage critically and safely with these developments.

The session reflected the growing interest in understanding how emerging technologies may be applied across different areas of health research and care, and the questions that accompany their development and use.
